Say Goodbye to Summer

So long summer!

School begins this week for Denton ISD which means it’s time to say goodbye to summer. Even though fall doesn’t officially start until September 22nd, the weather will likely feel like summer even longer. However, when school starts the magic of summer begins to fade. We’ve compiled a list of ways to enjoy the last bits of summer vacation before it’s time to hit the books.

Take indoor activities outside. Who says you have to respond to emails from a desk? If anything 2020 has taught us is we can work from anywhere. Hit the park and claim a corner to make calls, send emails, or work on that to do list. To make it even easier, use your hot spot for internet access. Or go to the Civic Center Pool or Quakertown Park where Wifi is available!

Too hot to hang in the sun? Take a sunset hike at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center to get your steps in and enjoy the natural beauty of North Texas. There are over five miles of family friendly trails across diverse terrains and through multiple habitats. There are portable restrooms but you’ll want to bring your own water for drinking.

Eat al fresco, or outdoors. It’s as easy as grabbing a blanket and food. Picnics can be for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks too! Grab an ice cream cone or a whole meal to enjoy the extra time outdoors before it’s cafeteria eating again.

Take a late night to stargaze. We’ve got great parks, so find one far from the lights and see all that our skies have to offer. Check out these tips from EarthSky to make your stargazing experience bright!

If you’re already working out, why not take that yoga mat outside? Both exercise and being outdoors are natural mood boosters. Plus you can enhance your connection with nature, work on your balance, and deepen your meditation practice. Grab a group and keep distant or enjoy your yoga all on your own.

No matter how you close out your summer, we hope you do it outdoors. Enjoy the sun and even the sweat. Because before you know it, we’ll be shivering!
