Eureka Playground: Chapter I
In 1995, hundreds of volunteers from across Denton came together to design and build Eureka Playground. At 20 years old, this much-loved and much-used playground has reached the end of its projected life. The cost of maintaining the playground–replacing broken parts, ensuring that it remains safe—continues to climb. It does not meet newer pubic playground standards.
Eureka Playground: Chapter II
The community members who built the original Eureka Playground built a foundation for the future. They created a tradition of bringing people together from across Denton to accomplish a goal that benefits the entire community.
It is on that foundation that The Denton Parks Foundation, in partnership with volunteers and the City, will craft the next chapter in the Eureka story.
Eureka II will be built in the tradition of the first, with community participation at every level. The next Eureka will also preserve and display the names of those volunteers who created Eureka I.
While preserving the unique nature of the original playground, Eureka II will offer increased accessibility for special-needs children. Construction materials will be — primarily recycled milk jugs. These materials will be long lasting and will require minimal maintenance.
Designing and constructing Eureka II will offer members of the Denton community the opportunity to offer their gifts of time, expertise and financial support.
You can make your gift to Eureka II on line.
