The Playground that Continues to Build Community
In 1995, thousands of volunteers from across Denton came together to design and build the original Eureka Playground. In 2015 and now 20 years older, this much-loved and much-used playground had reached the end of its projected life.
The community members who built the original Eureka Playground built a foundation for the future. They created a tradition of bringing people together from across Denton to accomplish a goal that benefits the entire community.
It is on that foundation that The Denton Parks Foundation, in partnership with the City of Denton and thousands of volunteers crafted the next chapter in the Eureka story.
Eureka 2 was built in the same tradition of the first, with community participation at every level and it also has preserved and displayed the names of those volunteers who created Eureka I.
While preserving the unique nature of the original playground, Eureka 2 offers increased accessibility for children with special needs and construction materials are made of primarily recycled milk jugs.
From design to construction and fundraising to volunteering we thank you for coming together and building community. When communities unite parks get better and there is no better example of this than Eureka 2.
