Picnics in the park can be so much fun! In fact, our family enjoys them for lunch and sometimes just for a snack. During COVID, we’ve found having a picnic at the park is a great way to break up the day and get fresh air too.
Of course, with COVID, things look a little different and our picnic does too. Here are a few things that you can bring to make your picnic both healthy and fun!
1 Bring your COVID necessities. For us this includes, masks, hand sanitizer, water, trash bags, and a picnic blanket. Having these items ensures we maintain our own health as well as those who potentially could be around us at the park. Of course, on this day, no one was around, so we went mask less. Additionally, bringing your own water, trash bags, and picnic blanket limits the amount of touching and exposure to COVID. Plus as avid trash picker uppers, our trash bag ensures the park is left better than when we arrived!
2 Snacks! A picnic would not be complete without some type of food. In fact, without food, you’re just chilling at the park. For snack time we included some cookies from Ravelin. It’s our go to for fancy tea like cookies and it’s always a treat! We balanced out the sweets with some bubble water, fruit, cheese, and veggie straws. Of course, any food will do! We themed this picnic in the park as an afternoon tea, with tea cups and all.
Picnic was originally a 17th Century French word, picque-nique. Its meaning was similar to today’s meaning: a social gathering where each attendee brings a share of the food.
3 Bring a friend! While we’re keeping physically distant, it can be difficult to bring a friend to the park but fear not Captain Marvel to the rescue!
Bringing a toy to the park, whether it be a hero, barbie, or brontosaurus helps add a little fun and creativity to the picnic. Even Captain Marvel enjoyed a cookie and some time in the creek! Plus, as a parent trying to balance work and a kiddo from home, this is a great opportunity to catch up on emails while your kiddo plays safely.
No matter when you choose to have a picnic in the park (breakfast, snack time, lunch or dinner), it’s a great way to enjoy the local amenities that Denton has to offer both safely and at minimal cost. Plus, when the weather is right, a picnic is always better than sitting at the table!
